Good practices > 5. Efficiency measures in traffic > Wikis > Modal shift by Hinterland Nodes (Dryport)

Summary
Initiative aimed at constructing an in land based port, in connection with the existing port by the sea. The objective is to be able to use intermodal transport solutions in the transport chain. Railway will be used to connect the dry port with the regular harbour, encouraging environmental friendly transport.
This creates a more effective chain between the harbour and the end destination.

A Dry Port is an inland intermodal terminal where there is a direct and frequent link by rail to and from a seaport. The Dry Port then functions as an inland port with the same services and functions as the seaport.

Objective
To enable cooperation among shippers and transport logistics providers to increase transport system efficiency through the dry port that also offers a rail shuttle.
